Redbridge Council threaten to sue, I say they they should investigate Jas Athwal instead

Ms Hamilton, the Chief Executive, the Redbridge Council Chief Executive threatens to sue me in a letter I received on the 6th July 2026. To avoid being sued by Redbridge Council I will have to comply with the requirements in the second page of the letter below.

On the same day I wrote back to Redbridge requesting permission to publish her letter and got back an email reply from the a Redbridge lawyer on the 8th saying I must not publish the letter above. The lawyer's email is below:

If sued by Redbridge I will say there is a reasonable suspension of misconduct in public office by Jas Athwal MP and Pervinder Sandhu, the Redbridge Monitoring Officer. However, I request Ms Hamilton reconsider s her position and orders a belated code of conduct investigation into Jas Athwal MP.

I say Mr Athwal lied when he claimed to have an agent managing his properties in the BBC article at the link Joe Pike Story

In the first extract below from the Joe Pike article Mr Athwal deflects blame to unnamed agent.

In the second extract, Mr Pike writes "Mr Athwal and his property manager were slow to respond to complaints or were completely unresponsive"

I believe Mr Pike's version (Mr Athwal has never disputed his reporting) which shows Mr Athwal managed the properties with a property manager (not a letting agent), which I suspect was a family member for reasons given in earlier posts. Of course, if a through investigation finds out Mr Athwal was a hands landlord responsible for sub-standard unlicenced flats he may well have been disciplined by the Labour Party.

Ms Sandhu, the Redbridge Monitor Officer ought to have instigated a code of conduct enquiry into the then Cllr Athwal but did not claiming he was acting as a private individual and not as Councillor.

This defence fell away when earlier this year the Information Commissioner's gave made disclosure orders which point to misconduct in public offence. Redbridge could have appealed against the orders which were based on my arguments that as elected representative Mr Athwal was due greater scrutiny than an ordinary person, but as far refused to do so.

The Freedom of Information process can take years due to the appeals process. I am trying to shorten the process by getting the police to intervene by so far they are claiming it is matter for the local government ombudsman see police station

I will be trying to get support from elected representatives to say this is a police issue not one for the local government ombudsman and will report back in due course.
