Letter for Ilford Recorder

Image
Dear Sir or Madam   The community group “Investigate Jas Athwal” went to 10 Downing Street last year to deliver a letter to the Prime Minister requesting he order an investigation into Jas Athwal and his rental properties. The Prime Minister did not write back. Since then Andy Walker and Andrew Boff AM (who is not part of the community group) have put in freedom of information requests to Redbridge Council which have been ignored or refused. Andy sought information about correspondence between “Cllr Athwal's managing agents and Redbridge Council from the 1st January 2024 to the 10th October 2024” Redbridge Council are refusing to supply any information about Jas Athwal's agent, not even the name of the agent, despite the Council publishing landlords' agents' names on the public website on the internet. Jas Athwal relied on having an agent to shield him from from criticism when news of his substandard flats broke. His refusal to name an agent suggests he did not have h...

Why Jas Athwal refusal to name his agent is significant

I say at the video:  Hello Jas, the Investigate Jas Athwal team went to 10 Downing Street on 16 th May because of Labour's delays or refusals in replying to freedom of information requests. The requestsb seek evidence as to whether misconduct in public office may have taken place in order for you to have avoided a fine for your slum flats last year. Redbridge won't even name your agent, despite agents being published on the public register. At the time the story broke, you relied upon the negligence of your agent to shield to protect yourself from criticism. Redbridge Council expect landlords to name their agents on their register. You have left out the name of your agent for all of your properties except two where you list yourself as the agent. You have have ignored my deadline of 5pm today to produce the name of your agent, so I believe you managed the flats yourself and misled everyone last year when you said you had an agent. Your refusal to say whether co...

Report from 10 Downing trip

Photos from yesterday Letter delivered Video of Cllr Noor outside number 10 This is Andy Walker below: The text is below The tests set out by Judge Martin Rodger QC  in a case dated 29 th July 2021 involving Redbridge Council suggest Jas Athwal should have been fined by now for not having a landlord licence and the sub-standard condition of his flats. However, Mr Athwal does not appear to have been fined. Residents are pursuing Redbridge Council for key documents via freedom of information as to what has gone on. However, the Council is either ignoring requests or taking a very long time to reply. This is unacceptable as it could take years to find out the truth. So Sir Keir, I ask you to investigate this matter because if there has a been a cover up it could be mean the criminal offence of misconduct in public office has taken place and it must be right that this issue is resolved as soon as possible.

Letter to be delivered to 10 Downing Street today

Please reply to Andy Walker 120 Blythswood Ilford IG3 8SG 16 th May 2025 Dear Prime Minister, We are writing on behalf of the community campaign group “ Investigate Jas Athwal” , following our initial correspondence dated 10th October 2024, which was hand-delivered to 10 Downing Street. That letter requested a formal investigation into the conduct of Mr Jas Athwal MP. Regrettably, we have not received any response from your office. We now write again to request your urgent attention in light of three new and serious developments: 1. Relationship Between Jas Athwal and Daljit Johal According to The Londoner (27 October 2024): “ Daljit Johal endorsed Athwal before the 2019 general election and the two men have interacted on multiple occasions in public Facebook posts, including one comment in which Athwal called Johal ‘the Don’. Records show Johal’s company Hear...
